Advocate and Member of the National Advisory Committee
After a short period of teaching after leaving UCD, Brendan joined the Health Board and was Community Welfare Officer and Superintendent Community Welfare Officer in Dublin and for a number of years subsequently in Kildare/ West Wicklow. In Kildare, Brendan was actively involved with MABS (The Money Advice and Budgeting Service), serving on the Board of Management. Since retirement in 2009 he returned to the HSE for a period to complete a project as Appeals Officer.
From the end of 2011 Brendan worked as volunteer Development Officer with Third Age National Advocacy programme (now SAGE), supporting volunteer advocates in their work in Nursing Homes in Kildare. Brendan is remains active as a volunteer advocate in Kildare.
